CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Boston College scored three unanswered goals in the third period on Friday and came back to defeat UConn 5-3 in Hockey East play on Senior Night at Kelley Rink.

The Eagles (13-14-6, 8-10-5 HEA) secured home ice in the Hockey East Opening Round next Wednesday night and can improve their seeding in the regular season finale on Saturday.

Down 3-2 in the third period, Mike Posma tipped a shot from Aidan Hreschuk from the left half wall to the blocker side post as BC knotted the score at 9:17. Less than two minutes later, Trevor Kuntar's left wing shot trickled off the glove of Logan Terness and Charlie Leddy tapped in the rebound at the right post for a 4-3 lead.

With Terness pulled for an extra skater in the final minute, Hreschuk made a key block just outside the crease on Matthew Wood that could have sent the game to overtime. Andre Gasseau sealed all three points on an empty-netter with less than 30 seconds remaining.

Boston College took the lead 11:05 into the first on an individual effort from Eamon Powell, who curled around his own net with speed and beat a UConn player to the outside along the right wing. Powell eventually cut into the slot and dished a pass to the left wing for Oskar Jellvik to finish past a sprawling Terness.

The Huskies (19-11-3, 12-9-2 HEA) answered in the second period with a pair of goals in the span of 1:49. Jake Veilleux finished a pass from Tristan Fraser five-hole at the right post and Ryan Tverberg ripped a shot blocker side off the left post from the top of the right circle on the power play.

The Eagles responded at 15:28 when Leddy dropped a pass to Hreschuk at the center point and the sophomore found the top right corner through a netfront screen from Gasseau for his first goal of the season.

UConn restored its one-goal lead less than 90 seconds later on the man advantage when Samu Salminen tipped a center point shot-pass from Hudson Schandor at the left doorstep.

Boston College dominated at the dot with a 43-19 advantage on faceoffs.

Prior to the game, BC honored eight members of the Class of 2023: graduate manager Will Dahlquist, graduate transfers Mitch Benson, Cam Burke and Christian O'Neill, and seniors Mitch Andres, Liam Izyk, Jack Moffatt and Marshall Warren.

The schools close the regular season at the Toscano Family Ice Forum in Storrs on Saturday afternoon on ESPN+ with faceoff at 4 p.m.
