Senior goaltender Zachary Borgiel made 33 saves in the game and stopped all three shots in the shootout for the Warriors

NO. ANDOVER, Mass. - The Merrimack Men's Hockey team trailed early in the third period, but found a late tying goal from Michael Citara who would later tally in the shootout to earn the Warriors the extra point after a 1-1 tie through 65 minutes at Lawler Arena on Wednesday night.


The Basics

Merrimack (4-5-1, 2-3-1): 1 (1), University of Massachusetts Lowell (4-6-1, 1-5-1): 1 (0)

Attendance: 2,576

Neither team was able to score in the first period, but Zachary Borgiel stood tall in the face of 13 shots on goal, stopping them all. In the second period, the story was the same as Borgiel made 14 more stops to send the game scoreless into the third.

The Riverhawks would take the lead only 24 seconds into the third period after a takeaway in the defensive zone.

After killing a late penalty, the Warriors would get their break as Matt Copponi found Michael Citara fresh out of the box, who would fire in the intial rebound to tie the game at one with 3:49 to play in regulation.

In overtime, Merrimack would record three shots to the River Hawks one, but neither team would convert a goal.

Michael Citara scored the lone goal for Merrimack in the shootout and Zachary Borgiel finished out his stellar performance blanking all three Lowell shooters to collect the extra point.
