HOCKEY EAST HEADLINES

UConn swept then-No. 13 Northeastern with a pair of shutouts from Megan Warrener and Tia Chan, vaulting the Huskies into the national rankings to take that same 13th spot in the polls. Jada Habisch scored two goals during the weekend and Maya Serdachny pitched in an assist while also blocking three shots.

Holy Cross downed No. 12 Vermont in overtime, 3-2, to claim two league points and move to 2-2-1 in conference play. It was the fourth win over the Catamounts in program history. Millie Sirum netted the game-winner in overtime and Madison Beck made 21 saves.

Boston University swept Merrimack in a pair of overtime games to imrpove its winning streak to four straight games and move to 3-2-0 in Hockey East play. Lacey Martin scored her first career hat trick on Saturday in a 4-3 overtime win and Alexa Matses earned her first two career wins in net for the Terriers.

Boston College and Maine split a tight weekend series in Chestnut Hill. The Black Bears took a 4-3 win on Friday, thanks to Ann-Frederique Guay’s hat trick, including two power-play goals and the game-winning strike. The Eagles got four points from rookie Sammy Taber, who dished out three assists, including the lone helper on the game-winning goal in Saturday’s contest, and added an empty net goal in a 4-2 win.

New Hampshire and Providence split their home-and-home series as Wildcats’ goaltender Sedona Blair went 1-1-0 with a 1.01 GAA and .967 save percentage, including a career-high 40 saves in a 3-1 road win and finished the weekend with 59 saves and two goals against. She backboned the Wildcats’ penalty kill to a perfect 9-for-9 weekend.

Lacey Martin (Sr., F; Minnetonka, Minn.) scored her first career hat trick on Saturday against Merrimack in a 4-3 overtime win. She finished plus-two on the weekend in total, going plus-one in both games. She won six faceoffs and blocked one shot over the weekend.

Ann-Frederique Guay (Gr., F; St-Lambert-de-Lauzon, Que.) netted a hat trick, including two power-play goals and the game-winning strike, in a 4-3 win over Boston College on Friday and added an assist on Saturday. She had seven shots on goal and four blocked shots on the weekend. She is currently on a four-game point streak (5g, 2a).

Sammy Taber (Fr., F; Tewksbury, Mass.) was the leader with four points (1g, 3a) for Boston College in a weekend split with Maine. She dished out three assists, including the lone helper on the game-winning goal in Saturday’s contest, and added an empty net goal in a 4-2 win.

Tia Chan, UConn (Sr., G; Hamilton, Ont.) Pitched a 22-save shutout in a 1-0 win over No. 13 Northeastern on Saturday, backboning UConn to a sweep of the Huskies.

Megan Warrener (Jr., G; Stoney Creek, Ont.) made 23 saves in a shutout performance against #13 Northeastern Friday evening in Boston. Warrener posted her second shutout of the season and moves to 3-0-0 on the year


HOCKEY EAST TOP PERFORMERS

Caroline Goffredo, BC (Sr., F; Mount Laurel, N.J.) Recorded her first points of the season, scoring two goals and adding an assist in a weekend split with Maine. She had four shots on net.

Annaka Mettler, BC (Jr., D; New Canaan, Conn.) Recorded the game-winning goal on Saturday, her first career goal, to split the series with Maine. Mettler blocked two shots on the weekend.

Neely Nicholson, BU (Fr., F; Pittsburgh, Pa.) Netted her first collegiate goal her goal at 19:02.3 in the road game at Merrimack to force the game to overtime. She totaled six shots in the home-and-home series with the Warriors.

Tamara Giaquinto, BU (Sr., D; Toronto, Ont.) Scored the overtime game-winner at home against Merrimack, firing six shots on net in the weekend series. She finished with a plus-three rating.

Alexa Matses, BU (Gr., G; Boxford, Mass.) Recorded her first two collegiate wins in net in 2-1 (OT) and 4-3 (OT) wins over Merrimack. She made 28 saves over the weekend and helped BU extend its winning streak to four.

Jada Habisch, UConn (Sr., F; Buffalo, Minn.) Scored two goals over the weekend to help UConn complete a weekend sweep of No. 13 Northeastern.

Maya Serdachny, UConn (Fr., D; Edmonton, Alta.) Pitched in an assist while also blocking three shots to help the Huskies complete a weekend sweep of No. 13 Northeastern.

Millie Sirum, HC (Sr., F; Oslo, Norway) Scored the game-winner in overtime to lead the Crusaders to a win over No. 12 Vermont on Friday. It was Millies second overtime goal of the season. She also had an assist on Alexia Moreau’s goal earlier in the game to take the lead in the second period.

Madison Beck, HC (Sr., G; Lunenburg, N.S.) Made 21 saves on 23 shots faced in a 3-2 win over aainst Vermont, including a breakaway save in overtime.

Celine Tedenby, MC (Gr., F; Ornskoldvik, Sweden) Had a hand in all three goals (1g, 2a) scored by Merrimack in a 4-3 setback to Boston University.

Maria Lindberg, MC (Fr., F; Stockholm, Sweden) Dished out an assist on Saturday in a 4-3 loss.

Natalie Nemes, MC (Sr., D; Kingston, Mass.) Had an assist on Merrimack’s lone goal against BU on Friday.

Calli Hogarth, MC (So., G; Barrie, Ont.) Made 56 saves combined in both of Merrimack’s games against Boston University this weekend.

Marina Alvarez, UNH (Jr., D; Center Moriches, N.Y.) Scored the game-winning goal in UNH’s 3-1 win at Providence and blocked a total of five shots in the home-and-home series against the Friars. Her power-play goal at 6:45 of the second period gave the Wildcats a 2-0 lead. She also blocked three shots in that road win. Alvarez was credited with two blocks in UNH’s 1-0 home loss.

McKenzie Cerrato, UVM (Fr., F; Malden, Mass.) Scored her first career goal in Vermont’s Friday night’s overtime loss to Holy Cross. Cerrato netted the equalizing goal late in the second period to propel the Cats into overtime.
