UConn Sits Atop Standings Entering Final Full Week of 2023

HOCKEY EAST HEADLINES

No. 14 Boston College and Northeastern clashed at Talbot Rink in Gloucester, Massachusetts on Saturday in front of over 1,500 fans. Peyton Anderson tallied a goal in a 3-1 victory for the Huskies and is tied for fourth among Hockey East players with nine goals this season.

No. 11 UConn split a weekend series at the Nutmeg Classic, falling to No. 7 Quinnipiac before claiming third place with a 3-1 victory over Sacred Heart. Jada Habisch scored twice, including her NCAA-leading fifth game-winning goal of the year, and added an assist for three points.

No. 15 Vermont took a 3-2 decision from Northeastern last Tuesday in the first women’s hockey game televised on NESN from Gutterson Fieldhouse. Freshman Rose-Marie Brochu scored the game-winning goal at 8:26 of the third period to cap off a back-and-forth affair between the teams that finished first and second in the 2022-23 Army ROTC Hockey East Standings.

Boston University split a weekend series held at the Ford Ice Center in Nashville, Tennessee, using three first-period goals to dispel Robert Morris, 3-1, before falling to Minnesota State.

Kira Juodikis tallied a goal and assist against Harvard in a 3-0 win for New Hampshire and the junior captain has recorded multiple points each of the past three games with a total of six points (2g, 4a) in that span. Juodikis has tallied multiple points in 6 of 15 games this season.

Jada Habisch - UConn

Jada Habisch (Sr., F; Buffalo, Minn.) scored two goals, including the game-winning strike on Saturday, and dished out one assist over a split weekend for the Huskies, leading them to a third-place finish in the Nutmeg Classic. She finished with a plus-one rating. Habisch currently leads the NCAA with five game-winning goals, all coming during UConn’s current run of 9-1-0 over its last 10 outings.

Audrey Knapp - Providence
Allie Lalonde - Northeastern

Audrey Knapp (Fr., F; Stevens Point, Wis.) scored the lone goal for the Friars in a 1-0 victory over Brown in the Mayor’s Cup, her first career game-winning goal. She currently leads Providence with give goals and two assists in 14 games played.

Allie Lalonde (Fr., F; Irvine, Calif.) posted two points off one goal and one assist in a split week over against two ranked opponents. Lalonde tallied a power-play goal at No. 15 Vermont and then posted an assist in a 3-1 victory over No. 14 Boston College. Lalonde is third among all Hockey East freshmen with 10 points.

Rae Breton - New Hampshire

Rae Breton (Gr., D; Brighton, Ont.) registered an assist and a block and also had a plus-two rating in UNH’s 3-0 win against Harvard. Her pass out of the defensive zone earned the secondary assist on the Wildcats’ third goal of the game early in the third period.

Gwyneth Philips - Northeastern

Gwyneth Philips (Gr., G; Athens, Ohio) recorded a 1-1-0 week against two ranked opponents for the Huskies. Philips made 50 saves over two games and recorded her first collegiate point with an assist against No. 14 Boston College on Saturday. Philips posted 29 saves against BC and had 21 saves at No. 15 Vermont in the 3-2 loss.


HOCKEY EAST TOP PERFORMERS

Sidney Fess, BC (Sr., D; Clifton Park, N.Y.) Had the lone goal for the Eagles in a 3-1 setback to Northeastern. The strike came on the power-play.

Grace Campbell, BC (So., G; Kensington, Md.) Saved 26 of the 29 shots she saw from Northeastern on Saturday. She ended the day with a 2.03 goal-allowed average and a save percentage of .929.

Ashley Allard, UConn (Fr., F; Ottawa, Ont.) Dished out two assists in a split weekend at the Nutmeg Classic for the Huskies. Allard went 17-13 at the faceoff circle for a 56.7% faceoff win rate.

Claire Peterson, UConn (Gr., D; San Jose, Calif.) Registered one goal and one assist for two points at the Nutmeg Classic, setting up the game-winning, power-play goal in Saturday’s 3-1 victory.

Brooke Hammer, NU (Jr., F; Commerce Township, Mich.) Matched her career high of two goals and also had an assist to extend her point streak to three games and finish with a personal-best three points and factor in on every goal in UNH’s 3-0 win against Harvard last Tuesday. She scored the first game of the goal, which proved to be the game-winning tally, at 17:46 of the first period.

Sedona Blair, UNH (Fr., G; Eden Prairie, Minn.) Recorded her second shutout of the season with a 19-save effort against Harvard, which backboned UNH to a 3-0 victory. She recorded 11 of those 19 stops in the second stanza. She kept Harvard scoreless on two power plays.

Peyton Anderson, NU (Gr., F; Arvada, Colo.) Scored two goals over two games to lead Northeastern to a split week over two ranked opponents. Anderson scored a power-play goal in a 3-2 loss at No. 15 Vermont and tallied another goal in the 3-1 victory over No. 14 Boston College on Saturday. Anderson leads the Huskies and is tied for fourth among Hockey East players with nine goals this season.

Hope Walinski, PC (Jr., G; Lincoln, R.I.) Pitched a 21-save shutout on Saturday, handing Providence a 1-0 victory in the Mayor’s Cup over Brown. It was her second perfect game of the year and improved her record to 4-5-0.
