Huskies Claimed First-Ever Hockey East Tournament Championship

AMESBURY, Mass. - The Huskies (25-7-5/19-4-4 HE) earned an automatic bid into the National Tournament after claiming the school’s first Hockey East Women’s Tournament crown on Saturday in a 1-0 overtime victory against six-time defending champions Northeastern at home in Toscano Family Ice Forum.

The 2024 national tournament field, featuring 11 teams for just the third time, has seeded the top five programs and includes top overall seed Ohio State, WCHA champion and defending national champion, No. 2 Wisconsin, ECAC champion No. 3 Colgate, and No. 4 Clarkson, who all advance automatically to the quarterfinals alongside No. 5 Minnesota.

Rounding out the field is Cornell, St. Lawrence, Minnesota Duluth, CHA champion Penn State, and NEWHA champion Stonehill.

UConn will square off with Minnesota Duluth on Thursday, March 14 at Ohio State.

Five teams received their automatic bids by winning their conference tournaments, while the remaining six atlarge bids were selected by the women’s ice hockey committee. The NC women’s ice hockey championship is a single-elimination tournament. The top four overall seeds will serve as the host sites for the regionals. Those top four teams are the No. 1 seeds, and the fifth overall program is the top No. 2 seed.

The 2024 National Tournament games begin on Thursday, March 14 at regional sites. The Frozen Four will take place at the Whittemore Center in Durham, New Hampshire, with the semifinals on Friday, March 22 and the national title game on Sunday, March 24. Tickets are on sale now.

Both Frozen Four semifinal games will be streamed live on ESPN+ on, Friday, March 22. The first semifinal game will air on ESPN+ at 4:00 p.m. and the second at 7:30 p.m. The national championship game will take place at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 24 on ESPNU.
